Day 1: Morning arrival into Kigali International Airport. You are met by our representative and embark on a sight-seeing/orientation tour of Kigali City featuring the Genocide Memorial Museum and the Kandt House (Museum of Natural History). Later, take lunch at the Hotel Mille Collines – depicted in the film “Hotel Rwanda”; the hotel became famous after 1,268 people took refuge inside the building during the Rwandan Genocide of 1994. Soon thereafter; depart Kigali and drive north-west of the country to the Ruhengeri area – at the foothills of the Volcanoes Mountains. 94km, 2.5hrs Arrival at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge in the late afternoon, for check-in.
Dinner and overnight at the Lodge. Full board.
Day 2: Early breakfast at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. 0645hrs: You are transferred to the park headquarters for registration for your gorilla trek and allocation of the particular gorilla family to visit. Once the trekkers are put into groups, each group’s Lead Guide briefs the trekkers of the trekking procedures as well as the “do’s and don’ts” while in the presence of gorillas.
After the briefing, trekkers return to their respective vehicles for the drive up the mountain to the starting point – the “Trail-Head”, for the commencement of your trekking experience.
It might take between 2 to 6 hours to come across the Gorillas. Upon sighting the gorillas, you will stay with them for a magical one-hour as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting; raising their young. Coming face to face with a giant silverback must truly be one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth!
• A Walking Stick is provided at the start-point – to help steady your trekking.
• Porters are also available – to help carry your water bottle/hand luggage
and/or even hold hand in slippery/steep sections for a minimal fee.
At the end of the trek, rejoin your driver-guide and transfer back to your lodge for freshening-up and lunch. Afternoon at leisure, with opportunity for optional activities, for additional cost; such as:
Ibyiwacu Cultural Village Visit Or a visit to the Twin Lakes of Burera & Ruhondo
Day 3: Breakfast at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge. Morning is spent at leisure, in the shadows of the Volcanoes Mountains. Lunch at the Lodge. Later in the afternoon, depart and drive south-westwards – down the winding roads and through the beautiful, rolling hill-sides, to the shores of Lake Kivu; Gisenyi.
Arrival in the late afternoon via an orientation tour of Gisenyi Town, including the Rwanda/DRC border point of Goma, and then onward to Gorillas Lake Kivu Hotel, for check-in. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the Gorillas Lake Kivu Hotel. Full board.
Day 4: Breakfast at the Gorillas Lake Kivu Hotel. Your morning is spent at leisure on the shores of Lake Kivu – with opportunity for optional activities, such as Swimming in the lake; Take lunch at Gorillas Lake Kivu Hotel, followed by check-out. Later take the afternoon, drive back to Kigali to arrive in the evening. 156km, 3.5hrs.
On arrival at Kigali City; check-in at Lemigo Hotel. Dinner on own arrangements. Overnight at the Lemigo Hotel. Breakfast & Lunch.
Day 5: Breakfast at Lemigo Hotel.
1000hrs: Check-out of your hotel. Transfer to the Kigali International Airport for your outbound flight. Breakfast.
